FOUNDATION COURSE

FOUNDATION IN MUSICAL THEATRE

​

The Foundation in Musical Theatre course is designed for students aged 18-23 who aspire to go on to vocational college and/or work in performing arts. The course is practical and largely performance-based. This is a 1-year intensive course designed to help students quickly improve their skills in acting, singing and dancing skills. This is a true all-rounder ‘triple threat’ training course, with a focus on auditioning for degree-level courses and life in the industry.  

 

We will provide you with an individual, intensive training program to make sure you have the level of technical skill, experience and self-confidence required to become a strong contender for a place at the best Higher Education establishments in the industry. We will help you to build a strong base of 'triple-threat' technical skill in dancing, singing and acting coupled with a committed work ethic and a broad understanding of the performing arts industry. This may include some of the following:

  • Acting – Voice, Improvisation, Classical Theatre, Physical Theatre and Acting Styles.

​​

  • Singing – Group Singing, Repertoire, Presentation & Acting Through Song, Musicianship and Individual Singing Technique.

​

  • Dance – Ballet, Pointe Work, Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), Acrobatic Dance, Commercial, Pilates, Creative Dance, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Body Conditioning.

 

  • Musical Theatre – Integrated Performance.

INDIVIDUAL TUTORIALS

 

As a student at KLDC Sixth, you will also receive valuable 1:1 tutorials, which will be tailored to your individual needs. These could include any of the following areas:

 

  • Coaching for vocational auditions

​

  • Guidance on headshots, self-tapes and video show-reels

​

  • Audition/interview technique

​

  • Voice coaching for singing and acting

​

  • Repertoire

​

  • Careers advice

​

  • Performance coaching if you play a musical instrument 

​

  • Choreography of solo dances

​

  • Student welfare

​

  • Support for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) 

​

  • Coaching for ISTD Diploma in Dance Education (DDE), which can be offered as an optional extra.

​

  • Coaching for LAMDA qualifications in Acting or Musical Theatre, which can be offered as
    optional extras.

​​

Throughout the course you will be working with our highly experienced tutors, who have a thorough understanding of what colleges and universities are looking for in auditions. We will guide you through the dance/drama school audition process from start to finish, including helping you with UCAS, personal statements, headshots, when and where to apply, audition repertoire, interview technique, etc.

 

Our class sizes are small which ensures that we are able to work with each student individually and support you through your training. The course will be intense, both mentally and physically, but your resulting sense of achievement and progression will be highly rewarding. A typical day starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm. The end of the course is celebrated with a showcase performance and a graduation ceremony.

Alongside these weekly classes, we have regular guest workshops and masterclasses with experts from the industry and major colleges.
